Zetes reduces errors in order picking at Volvo
Zetes
3IV Crystal
Zetes has announced a contract with Volvo Car Corporation to deliver 3IV Crystal, the latest version of the voice tool from Zetes.
3IV Crystal is optimised to be used with voice applications on both dedicated equipment (constant use of voice as the exclusive interface) and with applications that make partial use of voice with multimodal generic industrial handhelds (using voice as one of several user interfaces in order to obtain optimal results).
The contract with Volvo will be executed in partnership with IDnet, and comprises two different projects, which will be implemented at the production plant in Gothenburg.
The first project involves a voice-dedicated application, which will be installed in Volvo's warehouse to optimise the order picking of spare parts for Volvo workshops all over Europe.
Zetes is in charge of the project management and will take care of the integration of the solution with Volvo's WMS system, while IDnet will deliver 110 voice dedicated terminals.
The second project will be implemented in the production environment, which is based mainly in Sweden, where vital components such as engines and body components are manufactured.
Here, Volvo has chosen a multimodal or voice-assisted application.
Voice will be used as a user interface for the picking of parts that are needed in the assembly line and, thanks to 3IV Crystal, will be combined with bar code scanning.
This will allow easy entry of the operator's ID and, eventually, enable the operator to get information about the picked products on their screens.
For this second project, IDnet will provide the users with 30 terminals.
Voice will help Volvo to reduce the amount of errors during picking in both the warehouse and the assembly line and thus allow the company to reduce costs.
