‘Induction heating of steel pipe’
Engineering and design consultancy Atkins applies and delivers technical excellence across the lifecycle of oil and gas facilities. However, its office in Aberdeen encountered a problem on an oil pipeline when two adjacent copper tubes carrying de-ionised water were energised with alternative currents. IDAC was contracted to evaluate the induced current density and the Joule heating in the pipe using Ansys Emag simulation.

On 22 October 2014, IDAC will run a free one-day finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation workshop in Croydon.
SMS Mevac required a CFD analysis of a fixed fume extraction hood in order to understand the flow inside the hood, with a view to optimising its design.
IDAC has carried out several wind engineering analyses using the Ansys CFD capabilities for many large development projects for WSP Environmental. One such project has been the Shanghai Plaza.
IDAC was required to analyse two designs of the skid: a base model and a braced model incorporating additional braces on the top and sides, and a modified pad-eye design.
HBL requested that IDAC predict the impacted behaviour of a golf ball containing a wideband microwave transmitter unit. All of this was to be done using a relatively simple model of the in-ball electronics.
