Siemens PLM Software has launched the Student Edition of its Solid Edge software for 3D computer-aided design (CAD) applications, which is now available free of charge to all full- or part-time students at any academic level.
The no-charge 12-month licence — available to students through an instant download — contains the latest Solid Edge functionality, designed to create detailed product designs, and the company’s synchronous technology.
The licence can be renewed each year, as long as the user remains a qualified student.

- Students will have access to Siemens PLM Software’s synchronous technology, which is said to combine the speed and flexibility of direct modelling with the precise control of dimension driven design.
- They will also be able to access the full-function modules of Solid Edge drafting, sheet metal, surfacing and advanced assembly design.
- According to the company, the Student Edition of Solid Edge incorporates all of the functionality needed to create complete designs using some sophisticated and modern techniques.
