CompactRIO Module Development Kit Version 2.0 and RIO Mezzanine Card

National Instruments has launched version 2.0 of its CompactRIO Module Development Kit (MDK) and has introduced remote input/output (RIO) Mezzanine Card, which allow users to add specialised or custom inputs and outputs to packaged and board-level embedded control and monitoring systems.

The latest version of the MDK features a reconfigurable field-programmable gate array (FPGA) communication core that automatically carries out low-level tasks such as module detection, identification and data transfer.

Additionally the unit includes slot-agnostic code generation and an elemental input/output node paradigm, which allow module designers to provide the same quality to users whether the utilise third-party modules or NI modules.

RIO Mezzanine Card (RMC) expansion connectors are now featured on National Instrument’s single-board RIO units. These can provide additional custom circuitry to single-board RIOs, such as a combination of analogue or digital input/output or processor-based peripheral ports.

Key product features

  • The MDK is programmed with Labview design software
  • It features modular input/output
  • Its architecture includes floating-point processors
  • RMC connectors expose up to 96 digital I/O lines from the FPGA
