Rofin supplied Marquardt with a Dilas diode laser for the welding of plastic components, such as those used in the production of car keys.

Marquardt required a unit that could complete joining operations without affecting the surface of the component or damaging the key’s sensitive internal electronics.
The company therefore set out a number of guidelines, which the laser was able to fulfil. For example, during the welding process the weld seams must be strong, and hermetically sealed in order to prevent the ingress of moisture.
Additionally, laser needed to be highly flexible and enable the welding process to be controlled, while keeping the process time short.
