Sumitomo offers inserts for performing interrupted cutting cycles on steel
Sumitomo Electric Industries
ACE Coat AC810P inserts
The ACE Coat AC810P series of inserts from Sumitomo are suitable for use in performing high-speed continuous turning cycles and interrupted cutting cycles on a range of steels and, according to the company, improve wear resistance, surface finish and size control.
The inserts feature a CVD-applied Super FF titanium carbonitride coating of toughened Aluminia, which Sumitomo says reduces surface roughness and improves resistance to peeling, cracking, chipping and wear when used on a steels and cast iron at cutting speeds of more than 300m/minute.
Additionally, four ‘E’-type chip breaker styles are offered on AC810P inserts for the reduction of crater wear — which is a major cause of damaged or failed inserts. The NME style creates a smooth flow for roughing, the NSE is suitable for finishing, NSEW for high-efficiency finishing and the NGE can be used for general purpose turning.
The ACE Coat AC810P series can function at speeds of 200–500m/minute. Those with the E-Type chipbreakers can operate at 1–6mm depth of cut and run at feed rates from 0.1 to 0.7mm/rev.
Models are offered in 55° and 80° diamond, square and triangular styles, and 80° Trigon.
