Prototrak LPM
At Mach 2012, XYZ Machine Tools will launch the Prototrak lean production machine (LPM) — the first Prototrak-equipped machine tool to be fitted with an automatic tool changer.

TC 320 LTY
The 100mm Y axis of the XYZ TC 320 LTY — which will also be on show at Mach — is designed to make easy work of components that otherwise require separate milling and turning operations
-
Prototrak SMX 2500
Weighing 1,900kg, the XYZ Prototrak SMX 2500 CNC/manual bed mill — which will also be on show at Mach — has a Meehanite cast-iron base to provide maximum stability and vibration damping
-
Proturn SLX 355
Also on show at Mach, the mid-range XYZ Proturn SLX 355 CNC/manual lathe has 1,000mm between centres and features constant surface speed as standard
The 15hp, 8,000rev/min BT40 vertical spindle machine provides axis travels in X, Y and Z of 785mm, 470mm and 530mm respectively, with rapid feeds in all three axes of 20m/min.
XYZ claims that the LPM has a number of features in addition to the ‘plain English’ programming of its Prototrak control system that differentiate it from a standard vertical machining centre.
Key features and benefits
- An integral ball lock system machined into the system’s 900 x 500mm table provides a repeatable and accurate workholding mechanism.
- No matter which fixture plate is loaded onto the table for a second time, the operator will know exactly where the datum of the part is relative to one or other of the three registers built into the table.
- Once the initial set-up has been completed and the dimensional accuracy of the machined part confirmed, it can be repeated at any time, with the LPM ready to go within a few minutes rather than hours.
- Once the Prototrak LPM is set up and running in CNC mode, the operator can revert back to working on a manual-tool-change Prototrak mill. The result is said to be instant productivity and there is no need to recruit additional staff.
