Hurco machine tools
Hurco has supplied machine tools to a workshop that services the Diamond Light Source synchrotron — a UK research facility that produces a range of intense light beams — and machines a range of materials including aluminium, copper, zirconium copper, stainless steel, Inconel, PEEK and ceramic glass.
Since 2010, the workshop has purchased two Hurco VM20 machining centres — one of which is a four-axis machine with a rotary table — and a Hurco TM8 CNC lathe.
The machine tools have enabled the optimum parameters to be programmed, allowing the client to make productive use of solid-carbide and indexable-insert tools. The Windows-based Winmax software assists operators in the creation of cutting cycles and accepts DXF files inputted directly from the client’s CAD department.
According to Hurco, its machines have cut cycle times at the workshop by up to 60 per cent.
Additionally, they can accommodate larger parts and allow finer milled and turned surfaces — sometimes down to 3.2 microns Ra — to be achieved.
