Sumitomo releases drill series suitable for deep hole drilling in steel
Sumitomo Electric Industries
Super Multi-drill XHT range
The Super Multi-drill XHT range of solid carbide drills from Sumitomo is claimed to improve chip flow in high penetration deep hole drilling in steel.
The range features Sumitomo’s Super ZX multi-layer nano coating, which the company says improves penetration rates in steel without pecking.
The tool uses a ’double margin’ concept, where the clearance in the diameter of the body leaves more than one margin on each land of the tool. The leading edge and heel of the land of the tool also feature margins in order to improve stability.
Models are available in 0.5mm diameter steps from 3mm to 12mm and in hole depth ratios of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 times diameter.
