Prodrive selects IDT's Rapid IO switches for their embedded carrier and switch cards

IDT CPS-1848 and CPS-1616 Gen 2 Rapid IO switches

The IDT CPS-1848 and CPS-1616 Gen 2 Rapid IO switches from Integrated Device Technology (IDT), which have been selected by Prodrive for its next-generation Advanced TCA (ATCA) carrier and switch cards.

According to Prodrive, it selected IDT’s Rapid IO switch over 10GbE for key benefits in throughput, latency, jitter performance, quality of service and overall system power utilisation.

The hardware provider chose Serial Rapid IO (S-RIO) because the S-RIO protocol is optimised for embedded systems, while the Ethernet protocol is optimised for LAN and WAN networking applications.

Featuring a 256byte maximum payload size and low overhead that results in 95 per cent protocol efficiency, Rapid IO is claimed to deliver more than twice the performance of 10GbE products.
