Wastewater treatment firm specifies Siemens units

Flender gear units

Wastewater treatment firm KEE Process has specified Flender gear units from Siemens for a number of years, due to their reliability, low maintenance, high torque and low power demands.

One of KEE's latest UK projects was the installation of rotating biological contactors (RBCs), modular treatment plants for treatment of medium-scale capacity.

The 4.5m units incorporate Flender FZG gear units (size H3DH11), combined with Motox units (size KAF108K4-1LA9) and high-efficiency Siemens eff1 motors (size 113-4KA).

This special combination drive design was selected to achieve high ratios for low-speed operation - around 1rpm output speed - with 4kW power and 63,500Nm gearbox rating.

KEE Process contracts engineer Alastair McInnes said the units were virtually silent in operation, due to being driven by direct coupled geared motors.

KEE Process is currently carrying out a number of modular treatment plant projects in the UK and overseas, with Flender gear units and Siemens motors specified.
