Minus K vibration isolators for space telescope

Minus K Technology

Negative-stiffness mechanism technology

Minus K Technology has been selected by ITT Space Systems to provide vibration isolators for the ground testing of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) at the Johnson Space Center (JSC).

The JWST will be placed in a vacuum chamber at the centre and supported by a set of custom Minus K vibration isolators.

'A major factor in selecting Minus K is its ability to not only isolate vibrations vertically, but also horizontally at less than 1 Hz,' said Dr David Platus, president of Minus K and principal inventor of the Negative-Stiffness Mechanism technology that is the key to the passive-vibration isolators.
