Telonic Instruments offers battery-powered, handheld diesel-engine smoke-emission meter

Telonic Instruments

OM1 handheld diesel-engine smoke-emission meter

Designed to be an affordable way to measure diesel emissions, the OM1 from Telonic Instruments is a battery-powered meter that detects the opacity of diesel smoke by a green light-emitting diode pulsed through the smoke plume at 625 times a second.

It is used in conjunction with Celesco emitter/detector heads from the 107 or 300 range, with the processing of end-of-line or in-line measurements depending on which head is used.

The photodetector has an integral amplifier and is connected to the meter via a screened multicore cable.

Opacity and smoke density are displayed on the OM1’s LCD in real time, together with peak values that can be reset by the user, whereas results are recorded and plotted on a standard laptop or PC.
