Combined sensor from VTI improves accuracy of positioning in map-matching applications

VTI Technologies

SCC1300 combined sensor

Research carried out by Tampere University of Technology in Finland has shown that an SCC1300 combined sensor designed by VTI Technologies can improve positioning accuracy in map-matching applications.

According to the research, it is possible to improve the positioning accuracy and reliability of navigation systems by using digital road maps in addition to the main navigation system.

For maximum reliability, a high-performance gyroscope is needed; in this case, the SCC1300 was used to improve the positioning results.

Based on VTI’s 3D MEMS technology, the gyroscope is said to ensure stability, low noise and accuracy.

The numerical probabilistic map-matching algorithm was developed and demonstrated by a group of researchers at the university’s Department of Computer Systems.
