Permeability meter checks anti-corrosion coatings

Versaperm

Permeability meter

The Versaperm Permeability meter can measure the amount of water or oxygen, or almost any other gas, that can flow through a sample of an anti-corrosion coating.

With some coatings, it is possible to get an answer in as little as 30 minutes, whereas with conventional gravimetric techniques it usually takes several days or often weeks.

Corrosion is a massive drain on both industry and infrastructure.

Appropriate coatings could reduce the oxygen needed to fuel often rapid chemical and electrochemical reactions.

The permeability equipment is said to be simple to use, requiring, at most, minimal training, yet it offers high precision and repeatability, according to the company.

It is accurate in the parts-per-million range for many materials and gases; sometimes this is as high as parts per billion.

The meter can optionally be configured to measure permeability for gases under a range of conditions and for almost all gases including hydrocarbons, solvents, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, helium and water vapour.

The equipment is computerised and automated.

Versaperm also offers a permeability and diffusive flow laboratory testing service for companies who do not wish to purchase their own equipment.
