Meter directly measures permeability of coatings

Versaperm

Permeability meter

Versaperm's latest meter directly measures the permeability of engineering coatings, which are used to protect steel signs, stealth ships, carbon components and catalytic converters, for example.

The new meter enables the most appropriate choice of materials and manufacturing processes to be used.

Measurements can be configured for water vapour as well as oxygen, carbon dioxide, solvents, hydrocarbons and most other gases.

Accuracy is typically in the parts-per-million range (or in the parts-per-billion range for some gases and materials).

The meter incorporates automated computerised control and can cope with several samples at a time.

The equipment is claimed to be simple to use, requiring at most minimal training, and it can sometimes give results in as little as 30 minutes.

Conventionally gravimetric measurements may take several days or weeks and may deliver less reliable results, according to the company.

A permeability testing service is available from Versaperm for companies that do not have the production throughput to require a dedicated instrument.
