Smithers Rapra has invested in a video extensometer at its physical-testing laboratory at Shawbury.
The video extensometer is a non-contact video-based instrument.
It can measure 3D displacement and strain on materials, components and structures, replacing traditional contacting extensometers.
Benefits of using non-contact extensometers include achieving ease of use with precision performance.
The video extensometer is suited to: batch testing; high-temperature testing; harsh environments (chemical/radioactive); high strain (more than 100 per cent); high-speed impact testing; and very small (less than 1mm) or delicate samples.
It can also measure all of the following standard material properties: strain, shear strain, Poisson's ratio, modulus proof stress, ultimate stress, and ultimate failure strain.
