UV protected versions of Lenze’s IP65 SMV inverter drives are being used to power wine pumps — suitable for outdoor use — manufactured by an Australian producer of winery equipment.
An Australian manufacturer of wine equipment is using UV protected versions of Lenze’s IP65 SMV inverter drives to power pumps used to fill and empty wine barrels without disturbing sediment.
The client did not want to use stainless steel bodied drives due to their bulk and expensive nature and the acidic wine would eat away at the plastic used in standard drives, additionally the unit needed to be sealed due to extensive outdoor use.
The inverters feature a polycarbonate body that can resist the effects of the wine, as well as the protection needed to function outdoors.
They also provide good low speed torque, which enables a smooth start up acceleration and so avoids disturbing the sediment at the bottom of the barrel.
