Online Forums – rules of acceptable use

You are welcome to join in Source.theengineer.co.uk’s discussion forums. Before making any posts please take into account a few rules to help keep it running smoothly. Remember that this is a moderated forum so be aware that we are entitled to remove any posts that do not adhere to our terms and conditions or “House Rules” set out below

If you come across any posts of this nature that we have not spotted then please report it to us via e-mail. Also please consider that any posts made on the forum do not reflect the opinions of the website, the publication or its moderators.

Above all please be polite and respect your fellow professionals even if you disagree with their opinions!

By contributing to any of our discussion forums, you are deemed to accept the following “House Rules”:

Language

Swearing or blaspheming in any form is unacceptable, no exceptions.

Content

Your posting should be ‘on message’ meaning that it should be related to relevant topics.

All sexual, racist, discriminatory or other content that is offensive to any potential reader in any way is not acceptable. A post must not discuss or in any way promote illegal activities.

Offensive against another poster or individual

It is fine to mention another poster or individual (whether they are part of the community or not) as long as it is friendly or neutral in tone. That may mean disagreeing with their view but personal comment or criticism is not acceptable.

Defamation or libel

We are not happy to run comments that could be libellous or defamatory. Please note that even when a name is not given if the person can be identified this is equally unacceptable.

Advertising

You might wish to mention a company/individual favourably. There is a fine and fairly obvious line between reporting a good experience with a company or professional you have used, and blatantly advertising their services. Please note that the forum is not designed for advertising of products or services.

Personal Details

We do not recommend that you publish your own personal email address, telephone number or address and where this is noticed we shall delete the information.

Equally you must not include anybody else’s personal email address, telephone number or address without their consent as you could risk breaching the law on Data Protection.

Third party links and images

If you wish to upload images and links to third party content please check the terms and conditions of the website before doing so; particularly with regard to breach of copyright and consent.
