Trend introduces visual fault locator
Trend Communications
visual fault locator
Trend has launched a simple visual fault locator, a product which will simplify the tasks of optical technicians.
The visual fault locator is used to locate the faults in single-mode and multi-mode fibres, using the light in the visible spectrum to reveal bad connections, fibre breaks and excessive bending in jacketed or bare fibre.
When the fault locator is connected to the end of a fibre and the light is switched on, the end of the fibre can easily be identified by the visible red light.
Any light leakage from the fibre, due to breaks, bad connections or bending, are clearly revealed by the escape of light.
Modulation (flashing) of the light can be switched on or off to eliminate errors of fibre identification.
This rugged tool weighs only 130g.
Features include: detection of breaks and micro-bending even through jacketed fibre; end-to-end visual fibre identification; location of faults up to 5km along the fibre; compact and durable design for field use.
Applications include: telecom optical installations; CATV optical installations; optical test laboratories; fibre optics installation and maintenance; SDH, Sonet, Gigabit Ethernet, PON/ FTTx, Opt LAN CWDM/DWDM and out-of-band testing; optical network commissioning; quality assurance and acceptance testing.
