TMD supplies power module for EADS trials

PTX8202 microwave power module
A prototype power supply from TMD Technologies for ground mapping radar is proving successful in trials conducted by EADS Astrium.
The PTX8202 MPM (microwave power module) provides power for the X-band synthetic aperture radar system for ground mapping developed by Portsmouth-based EADS Astrium.
Its ultra-low noise output has contributed significantly to the quality of the images produced.
'We will shortly be carrying out further intensive flight trials and so far the MPM has worked perfectly,' said Martin Cohen, head of radar demonstrators at EADS Astrium.
Operating in the 9.0-10.7GHz waveband, at up to 110W CW, the TMD unit has provided improved reliability, which had been a particular problem with previous modules from other suppliers.
Other advantages of the MPMs for this application include their light weight and compact size.
