New from Amplicon is the blu2i range of intelligent Bluetoothadapters from TDK Systems.

Designed for manufacturing, automationand industrial applications, they are TDK's pioneeringproducts for the industrial Bluetooth market.

The cornerstone ofthe range is a small-footprint PCB module with digital, analogue, serial and audio over Bluetooth capability, priced extremelycompetitively.

Developer kits are also attractively priced andallow the potential user to evaluate the product in full, todetermine its suitability for inclusion in new product designs orto add Bluetooth capability to existing products.

By removing theneed for OEM designers with specialised knowledge, the modulereduces the Bluetooth integration cycle from months to hours.

Thecomplete portfolio comprises five products, which can be used toembed wireless capabilities in new equipment, or add cable-freeconnection to legacy hardware.

A key feature is that the top halfof the Bluetooth protocol stack is embedded onboard, so dumbRS232 devices can communicate wirelessly without the requirementfor software to be written, allowing quick and easy integration. The range offers a selection of RS232, USB and PCMCIA interfaces.Full Bluetooth qualification, a legal requirement for anyBluetooth enabled system or product, has been carried out on therange, allowing OEMs/ODMs to inexpensively add wirelesscapability to new and existing product designs alike.

Manysuppliers do not offer Bluetooth-approved components, makingmanufacturers liable for the costs of Bluetooth qualification fortheir finished product.

At a typical cost of GBP 40,000 perproduct, selection of the wrong system component can be anexpensive error to make.
