GPRS connectivity made simple

Wireless cellular products
Amplicon has a new range of wireless cellular products it reckons makes GPRS connectivity simple and accessible to all.
Amplicon has unveiled its first ever range of wireless cellular products.
Capitalising on a long history in device connectivity and a rapidly growing market for industrial wireless solutions, the company plans to make GPRS connectivity simple and accessible to all.
New distributor agreements with manufacturers in the USA, Taiwan and Italy will provide depth of product and specialist knowledge in the application of cellular technologies.
A partnership agreement with Wyless PLC, an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) in the uk, will enable total solutions through the provision of specialist SIM cards.
Alan Beveridge, Channel Development Director at Wyless commented: "Wyless provide SIM cards tailored for industrial applications with tariffs that are optimised for M2M (machine to machine) transfers".
"By pre-testing Amplicon's hardware with our SIM cards, we can offer GPRS solutions that work 'out-of-the-box'".
The practical outcome of these developments is that integrators will be able to build systems that monitor serial (RS232, RS422 or RS485) or Ethernet devices in the field from a central server.
End users will be able to use this information to conduct their business much more efficiently and adopt new strategies based on a source of real-time information never previously available.
GPRS coverage is currently the most reliable and cost-effective it has ever been.
With a typical 97% coverage in the UK, and datarates approaching that of a dial-up modem, GPRS offers an exciting new solution to applications in remote logging, fleet management, retail, utility metering and many more.
David Evans, Data Communications Product Manager at Amplicon, summarised the companies approach to this new venture: "It's all about making life easier for the integrator".
"Many companies are experts in their own right but have little or no knowledge about the protocols and technologies that underpin GPRS operation".
"By removing many of the headaches and providing solid technical support, we hope to be instrumental in the widespread adoption of GPRS".
