legacy conversion router
Precidia Technologies has launched the S-Lynx220 legacy conversion router.
The S-Lynx220 offers the capabilities of a router and a network adapter, in one low-cost device.
Featuring SSL encryption, firewalling and automatic dial back-up, the S-Lynx220 is ideal for mission-critical applications such as DNP SCADA, access control and emergency 911.
The S-Lynx220 is deployed, monitored and managed by Netvu, Precidia's management server.
Based on the Lynx220 hardware platform, the S-Lynx220 offers 2 RS232 interfaces, 2 incoming dial ports and a built-in modem for automatic dial back-up.
The device connects stand-alone serial devices or applications to public broadband networks, with SSL encryption and firewalling for enhanced data security.
The S-Lynx220 also features automatic dial back-up, in case of network failure, and alerts via text or email.
It can also simultaneously route data to multiple IP addresses, at a fraction of the cost of a typical router.
Actively managed by Netvu, the S-Lynx220 can download its configuration remotely for simplified field installation, and offers substantial management data.
Great River Energy, with its head office in Maple Grove, Minnesota, is an electric utility that chose the S-Lynx220 to route data from a legacy RTU master to multiple IEDs in power/distribution substations: 'The S-Lynx220 saves us the thousands of dollars that would be required to undertake substation redesign where legacy RTUs are in use.
'With this device, we can also analyse traffic and customise its flow between RTU and IEDs.
'In addition, Precidia's product can accommodate many of our other protocols,' said David Jimenez, telecommunications technician/electrician for Great River Energy.
