Lanner network appliance has high port density
Lanner Electronics
FW-8865 U network appliance
Lanner Electronics has introduced the FW-8865, a 1U network appliance with high port density and Intel's newest server-grade workstation platform.
The FW-8865 uses the Intel Xeon Processor E3-1200 range and Intel C206 chipset.
It supports up to 21 LAN ports and features many enterprise-level solutions for mainstream platforms.
Using the server-grade Intel architecture and the Intel Xeon Processor family, the network appliance has the capacity to hold two Lanner 8800 series modules, giving a maximum total of 21 LAN ports.
As a workstation and server platform, the chip combination is said to deliver improvements in energy efficiency, performance and manageability over the previous generation of Intel Xeon processors.
Lanner claimed the FW-8865's networking ability is unparalleled, with the four onboard LAN ports able to feature Generation 3 bypass.
Generation 3 bypass is a Lanner design created to give end users absolute control over bypass functionality by allowing them control over the bypass ports even when the platform is in a powering on/off stage.
The four LAN ports (two pair bypass) that offer this technology can utilise either the Intel 82574L Gigabit Ethernet controller or the Intel 82576EB Gigabit Ethernet controller.
A final LAN port is an RJ-45 FE Management port that can be used for IPMI or OPMA, allowing remote management access to the platform.
In addition to the onboard LAN ports, the FW-8865 also has two trays for Lanner 8800 series modules.
Lanner modules can feature two to eight copper or fibre LAN ports, and can feature speeds up to 10GbE per port.
These modules allow end users to grow their appliance to meet their demand.
Internally, the FW-8865 can hold both of the most recent Intel Xeon processors - the Intel Xeon processor E3-1275 (3.4GHz) and the Intel Xeon processor E3-1225 (3.1GHz).
These processors are connected directly to four 240-pin DIMM slots, each of which can carry a maximum of 4GBs of dual-channel DDR3 RAM.
It also has one PCIe (x)4 slot for expansion purposes.
The FW-8865 is compatible with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
There is an RJ-45 console port, two USB 2.0 ports and a 2 x 20 LCM.
The FW-8865 features an internal RTC and a watchdog to ensure constant operation.
The platform has been exclusively tested for temperatures between 0C and 40C, It can be ordered with dual power supplies for redundancy purposes.
