Huawei to develop 40G transport network

The 40G wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transport network will substantially increase China Unicom's network capacity and enable it to meet the increasing demand for high-bandwidth broadband from China's business and residential customers using new multimedia services.

Huawei's 40G WDM solution is four-times faster than most current transport data rates and can achieve ultra-long haul transport without electrical regeneration.

This reduces investment costs and enables scalable deployments in countries such as China where dense urban centres are often separated by vast distances.

'Huawei's network will provide all-IP fixed-mobile convergence services and address the demand for real-time communications and streaming video in China,' said Christian Chua, president of Huawei's transport network product line.

'Huawei's 40G WDM technologies are helping carriers worldwide deploy reliable commercial networks with increased capacity and greater efficiencies.' The 40G WDM system adopts Huawei's C-band extension technology, which increases the fibre transport bandwidth by an extra 20 per cent and enables transport capacity of 3.84T.

It also provides comprehensive encoding technologies and services across different application scenarios.

Huawei has also commercialised its 40G WDM products in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

Huawei has also deployed the longest 40G trunk in the world without using electrical regenerators.

That trunk is 1,141km and runs from Moscow to St Petersburg.
