Gateway extends USB over IP
Amplicon
AnywhereUSB gateway
The AnywhereUSB gateway is a novel remote networking solution that allows up to five USB 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0 devices tto communicate with a host PC over an Ethernet network running TCP/IP.
The AnywhereUSB gateway is billed as the first device of its kindto be available in the UK - a remote networking solution whichallows up to five USB 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0 (operating at 12Mbit/s)devices to communicate with a host PC over an Ethernet networkrunning TCP/IP.
Incorporating unique USB over IP technology, thisoriginal product provides a completely transparent connection toa PC allowing the user to operate USB devices across a LAN, WANor the Internet, removing the 5m distance limitation between USBperipheral and host.
The new technology allows central monitoringof remote USB devices without the requirement to modify software. This makes it ideal for applications such as surveillance, kiosks, point-of-sale and general automation tasks.
The productalso adds a layer of redundancy into any system that is dependenton USB devices through its "host-swap" capability.
Ifthe host PC should crash, another host can be allocated tocontinue communications with the AnywhereUSB, preventingexcessive system downtime in critical applications.
The productcan really be appreciated when a USB device is plugged into theAnywhereUSB and the "found new hardware" dialogue boxappears on the host.
The user requires no in-depth networkingknowledge thanks to the easy-to-use configuration software thatships with the product.
David Evans, Amplicon's DataCommunications Product Manager comments: "The potentialmarket for this product is massive and our recent success withserial to Ethernet technology gives us a great insight into themarketing of such an innovative gateway device".
The companywill be offering a special introductory price to celebrate thelaunch of AnywhereUSB.
Amplicon has recently signed a newdistribution agreement with Digi, manufacturer of the AnywhereUSBdevice, and in addition will also be distributing thecompany's series of serial to WLAN device servers.
