CAR-4000 1U Platform Communications Appliance
Portwell Technology has launched the CAR-4000 1U Platform Communications Appliance, based on the quad-core Intel Xeon processor 3400 series, or Intel Core i5 or Core i3 processor.
Its features are said to make CAR-4000 the ideal choice for security applications such as enterprise internet security, firewall, WAN optimisation, unified threat management, network access control, network-behaviour analysis and triple-play broadcasting for the enterprise and medium-sized offices.
Powered by Intel's new generation of intelligent server processors - the Intel Xeon processor 3400 series - Portwell's CAR-4000 supports four DIMM slots with high-speed 1333MHz dual-channel DDR3 ECC memory; dual x8 PCI Express Gen2 slot (8GB/s bidirectional) for connecting Portwell's expansion modules; expansion capabilities include two PCI-E x8 interface for a modular bay for Portwell's ABN/NIP module product range; fibre and copper port connections including dual-port 10G readiness (Intel 82598EB, Intel 92599ES with SFP+ Interface and Intel 82599EB 10Gbase-T Copper Interface) and PCIe Gen2 Quad Port GbE and SFP (Intel 82580) module; 2x16 character LCD-display-module options that include EZIO-300 (with four buttons), EZIO-G400 (128x32 graphical module with four buttons), or EZIO-G500 (128x64 graphical module with seven buttons); VGA pin header available for software/application development; one 3.5in or two 2.5in Serial ATA Hard Disk Drive; and one onboard Compactflash slot.
As a space-saving 1U platform, CAR-4000 - with one PCI Express expansion in an x4 slot - provides more flexibility for customers requiring Crypto, Wireless, ADSL and other add-on modules.
For external connectivity, the CAR-4000 platform - featuring up to 20 PCI-Express Gen2 Gigabit Ethernet ports with six pairs of bypass segments - can be deployed easily in frontline security applications.
Other features include two USB 2.0 ports and RJ45 console on the front panel, 300W high-efficiency (80 plus) AC-DC power supply with PFC and high performance per watt for rack-mount platform, at a maximum of 205W for quad-core Intel Xeon Processor X3450 (2.66GHz) with 20 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
