MSC Vertriebs develops Qseven embedded module
MSC Vertriebs
Q7-US15W computer-on-module
MSC Vertriebs presents its first embedded module Q7-US15W in the compact form factor 70mm x 70mm based on the open Qseven standard.
The integrated Qseven module is specifically designed for mobile, battery-operated applications.
The MSC Q7-US15W computer-on-module integrates a power-saving Intel Atom processor Z530/Z510 with up to 1.6GHz clock frequency and the mobile Intel System Controller Hub (SCH) US15W.
The maximum power dissipation of the Qseven module is only 7W.
The Qseven form factor defines an Embedded Application Software Interface (EASI) for the watchdog timer, the IC bus, a LCD backlight controller, the Bios user storage area and the temperature control.
A wide range of industry standard interfaces are available for connection of external devices including three PCI Express x1, two SATA-2 with up to 200MB/s, eight USB 2.0 ports, a 1000 Base-TX Ethernet interface, a High Definition Audio (HDA) interface and an LPC output.
The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 integrated in the Controller Hub offers 18/24-bit LVDS and SDVO interfaces for up to 1600 x 1200 pixels.
The Qseven standard uses MXM connector technology, which has been proven in laptop computers.
The MXM connector is specifically designed for high transmission speeds and mounted on the motherboard.
Thereby, costs can be significantly reduced compared to connector pairs.
The MSC Q7-US15W module requires only one 5V power supply thus making additional power supply circuits on the Qseven board unnecessary.
The Qseven module can be provided with hardware and Bios-based security functions that comply with the requirements of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG).
In addition to Congatec and Seco, MSC Vertriebs is one of the founder members of the Qseven consortium, which was formed at the beginning of this year.
The open Qseven standard defines power-saving computer-on-modules in the compact form factor 70mm x 70mm.
The Qseven consortium has also introduced the Qseven Design Guide, the Board Support Package for the Embedded Software Application Interface (ESAI) and the Qseven reference platform for system designers developed by MSC Vertriebs.
