Low-cost processors for industrial applications
Acrosser
PC-104 CPU module
Acrosser Technology has announced its PC-104 CPU module AR-B8020 entry-level platform for industrial applications.
According to Acrosser, many industrial applications only need a 386- or 486-level CPU to execute basic industrial applications.
These low-cost processors have been phased out from the market and system integrators are forced to spend more cost on new platforms, added the company.
For example, the current X86 CPU clocks are all more than 600MHz and form factor sizes are bigger than 3.5in.
They are either too expensive or too big for simple industrial applications.
Industrial applications can also choose RISC platforms besides X86 to decrease platform costs.
But, they need to spend more manpower and time to develop dedicated RISC operation system.
This is why, for small- and medium-sized projects, Acrosser has launched the PC-104 CPU board with X86 software structure offering a high cost-performance ratio.
