fibre bypass module
Lanner Electronics has released an advanced 10Gbps fibre bypass module and two network appliances at Computex, which runs until 6 June at the Taipei World Trade Center.
The 10-Gbit fibre bypass network module allows customers to deliver communication systems with higher throughput and fewer network cables to meet the demand for throughput capacity in security and acceleration appliances.
The Lanner 10GbE network module uses the latest Intel Ethernet 10-Gigabit Ethernet controller as its core technology, and provides dual-port bypass for high availability in mission-critical network appliances.
The 10GbE network module is compatible with Lanner's FW-8800 Series appliance platforms, which are also on display at Computex.
The Lanner FW-8860 and FW-8875 network appliance platforms target network security and acceleration applications such as UTM, intrusion detection/prevention, gateway antivirus, web filtering, VPN firewall and WAN acceleration.
The FW-8860 supports a single Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad CPU, with an Intel 3210 chipset in a 1U rack-mount chassis.
An optional Cavium Nitrox CN1620 security processor provides encryption acceleration for higher throughput in advanced network security applications.
The FW-8875 is also a 1U appliance, built on the Intel 5520 chipset and supporting quad-core Xeon 5500 Series processors.
The Intel 5520 chipset, previously codenamed Tylersburg, brings server-grade chipset technologies such as triple-channel DDR3 memory, PCI-Express 2 and Quick Path Interconnect (QPI), which replaces the traditional front side bus with a faster communication channel.
Additionally, the chipset supports Intel Xeon 5500 processors, built on the Nehalem microarchitecture, which offer 30 per cent lower power usage with the same performance as the previous generation.
Lanner will also be displaying the MRX-CN56 Cavium acceleration module, a slot-in module for Lanner's FW-8800 Series network appliances.
The MRX-CN56 is a four-port GbE network processor module with a Cavium CN5650 750MHz security acceleration processor onboard.
Its modular design provides increased flexibility, by allowing customers to add a Cavium acceleration processor to offload packet processing from the CPU without having to redesign the system board.
