Convertible classmate PC design
Intel has previewed its latest Intel-powered convertible classmate PC design with local PC manufacturer CMS, which will be bringing the product to the UK market under the brand name Fizzbookspin.
The latest design, which was previewed at St Matthew Academy in Blackheath, London, will be distributed by Steljes in the UK and Ireland.
The new design expands the existing classmate PC range, which is part of the Intel Learning Series, and will provide classrooms with PCs tailored for children between five and 11 years old.
The PC combines aesthetics, full PC functionality, improved performance, energy efficiency and enhanced e-reading capabilities, according to the company.
Using the Intel classmate PC design architecture, CMS has created Fizzbookspin, which will go on sale in the UK in May 2010.
'The new classmate PC is durable and lightweight, with additional ergonomic features such as a rubberised surface for easy grip and a comfortable, low-profile handle that supports a variety of holding and carrying positions,' said Tristan Wilkinson, head of public sector at Intel EMEA.
It can convert instantly from a clamshell design to a tablet PC, allowing students to move between activities and locations in the classroom.
The digital accelerometer automatically switches the screen orientation, enabling students to hold their PCs any way they want and with whatever hand they use to write.
Additional features of the convertible classmate PC include: an increased memory and storage to run education applications; integrated wireless connectivity with WiFi and providing the options of 3G, GPS and Wimax; a built-in rotational camera; a rechargeable battery with up to 8.5 hours of battery life; a 10.1in (25.7cm) LCD monitor with 1,024 x 600 resolution; a built-in audio and microphone so students can experience and create multimedia; and an Intel Atom processor, built for low power consumption and designed specifically for mobile internet devices and netbooks.
