Embedded Ethernet controllers
Asix Electronics has released the AX88782 and AX88613 members of its embedded Ethernet controller range, which are available in a 10mm x 10mm 80-pin LQFP package.
These two-port Ethernet devices can be configured as a fully managed Layer-2 switch, with the third port being connected to any host processor.
Using the AX88782 with a generic 8/16-bit microcontroller or the AX88613 with an MII microcontroller, designers can provide two-port Ethernet connectivity, typically one for LAN and one for WAN, to address current and emerging networked devices in home consumer electronics.
The AX88782/AX88613 are single-chip two-port 10/100M Ethernet switch controllers featuring a three-port switching fabric with QoS priority management, three 10/100M MACs, two 10/100M PHYs, and 8/16-bit non-PCI (AX88782) or MII (AX88613) host interface.
The AX88782 supports checksum offload engine and burst-mode access to provide a high-performance two-port Ethernet connectivity solution for any embedded MCU.
The built-in switching fabric in the AX88782/AX88613 supports non-blocking wire-speed forwarding and offers an advanced switch feature set that includes tag/port-based VLAN, spanning tree, rate control, port security, port mirroring, IGMP snooping, MIB counters and four priority queues for QoS functions, including port-based, 802.1p VLAN, IPv4 TOS and IPv6 COS to prioritise voice, video, audio and data traffic delivery.
The AX88782 and AX88613 have an integrated a voltage regulator and provide support for programmable I/O voltage options of 3.3V/2.5V/1.8V.
As semiconductor designs migrate to advanced process geometries such as 90nm, 65nm, 45nm and beyond, many higher performance ASICs, SoCs and FPGAs require lower I/O voltages.
The AX88782 and AX88613 are suitable for embedded system applications such as VoIP phone/ATA adapters, surveillance IP cameras, next-generation IP-STB/IPTV, industrial controller/network sensors, port redundancy/port monitoring and single board computers (SBC).
To help customers evaluate and develop applications with the AX88782/AX88613, Asix provides technical support including hardware and software application notes, user guides, schematics, PCB layout guides, and drivers for Windows/Linux/WinCE operating systems.
Asix's AX88782 and AX88613 are offered in RoHS compliant versions.
