Advantech, an Eplatform service provider, has introduced the Ark-3420: a fanless industrial computer that supports Intel Core2 Duo processors and has the Intel GME965 chipset built in.
Featuring powerful processing coupled with a display capability, as well as PCI/PCIe expansion and dual SATA HDD support, the Ark-3420 is positioned to facilitate a range of applications, including image processing, surveillance, automatic optical inspection (AOI), flight information display systems (FIDS), kiosks and automation and embedded control.
For flexible expansion, the Ark-3420 offers five expansion-slot selections: two PCIs; two PCIe x1; two PCIe x4; one PCI + one PCIe x1; and one PCI + one PCIe x4.
There are six front-panel function keys, all programmable to perform management, upgrade, networking, maintenance, display or reporting functions.
The Ark-3420 accepts a range of DC power input, ranging from 9V to 34V.
It also supports up to two 2.5in (6.4cm) SATA hard drives for ample storage.
All Ark-3420 electronics are protected in a ruggedly compact, sealed aluminium case that provides shock, vibration and dust resistance, making the device suitable for harsh environment assignments.
The case also provides EMI protection and passive cooling.
With a footprint of 220mm x 102.5mm x 200mm (8.66in x 4.04in x 7.87in), it is suitable for space-limited applications and fits in as a standalone wall- or desk-mount unit; alternatively, it can be embedded within another housing.
The company claims that the Intel GME965 chipset provides crisp graphics and a rich visual experience with Intel clear video technology.
The Ark-3420 offers one DVI-I interface for dual displays, six USB 2.0 ports, two Giga local-area-network (LAN) ports, audio function, four COM ports and two PCI expansion slots, all packed into a small rugged unit and powered by an Intel Core2 Duo processor.
It also has audio line-in, mic-in and speaker-out with a 2.2W amp.
For storage options, two 2.5in SATA HDDs and one Compactflash card are supported.
The Ark-3420 provides system integrators with a versatile, turn-key application for a smooth development path that is suitable for time-to-market deadlines, according to the company.
