Ruffsystem 840
Adlink Technology, a supplier of embedded computers, has announced the availability of an Extreme Rugged system based on the Intel Core2 Duo processor.
The Ruffsystem 840 integrates a dual-core processor, RAM, graphics, networking and PCI Express expansion in an Extreme Rugged enclosure that operates from -40C to +75C.
It is suitable for mission-critical computer applications such as military, transportation monitoring and control systems, aviation and other harsh environments.
The Ruffsystem 840 provides a low total cost of ownership while improving the time to market by integrating rugged designed boards and validating the complete system, saving customer efforts and resources in trial-and-error integration and validation.
The system showcases the Intel Core2 Duo L7500 1.66GHz 45nm processor with support for 4Mb of on-chip L2 cache, 800MHz front side bus (FSB) and two SODIMM sockets for up to 4Gb of DDR2 RAM.
The board's built-in graphics engine utilises Intel's GMA X3100 with up to 384Mb of 64-bit video RAM (DVMT4.0) and can drive CRTs, flat panels and wide-screen digital televisions at resolutions of up to 2,048 x 1,536, including 1,920 x 1,080 at 85Hz (HDTV).
An onboard video encoder adds TV-out capabilities such as HDTV (420p, 720p and 1080i), Component and S-Video for customised solutions.
The highly integrated Ruffsystem 840 also packs a range of input/output (I/O), including two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 2.0 channels, VGA, stereo audio, four serial ports (two supporting RS232/422/485), a parallel port and one SATA II interface.
The system also provides flexible expansion via a Compactflash socket, a Mini PCI Express card and a Mini PCI slot.
To meet the needs of military applications, a version of the Ruffsystem 840 with MIL-STD-D38999 connectors, the Milsystem 840, will be available in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Both systems are designed to meet MIL-STD-810, support high shock, vibration and humidity and have an extended operating temperature range of -40C to +75C.
The Ruffsystem 840 supports a full range of embedded and desktop operating systems, including Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and Windows XP Professional.
