Concurrent launches CL PMC/GB4 fibre adaptor

CL PMC/GB4 two-channel optical fibre adaptor

Concurrent Technologies has announced the CL PMC/GB4 two-channel optical fibre adaptor as the latest addition to its range of networking PMC mezzanine cards.

The CL PMC/GB4 optical fibre adaptor supports dual SFP connectors with board options for 1000Base-SX Multi-Mode or 1000Base-LX Single-Mode fibre interfaces.

Commercial and extended temperature versions are available.

The company said the board is particularly suitable for defence or industrial applications requiring a high level of noise immunity and higher data throughput while maintaining a wider separation of network nodes.

The CL PMC/GB4 provides high-speed networking through the Intel 82546GB Gigabit Ethernet controller, providing individual MAC and frame controllers supporting 64Kbyte Tx/Rx FIFO ports, along with IP, TCP and UDP checksum off-loading.

Supporting 1000Base-SX over 850nm Multi-Mode fibre connections or 1000Base-LX over 1310nm Single-Mode fibre connections, the adaptor's physical connection to a network is via industry standard SFP transceiver modules.

By using SFP connectors the CL PMC/GB4 provides the user with the flexibility to choose the most appropriate standard fibre or copper transceiver modules for their particular application.

The CL PMC/GB4 is a single-size card and is compliant with the CMC (Common Mezzanine Card) specification.

The adaptor complies with the PCI specification, features 3.3V or 5V signalling and 32-bit or 64-bit transfers, can operate at PCI-33/PCI-66 or up to PCI-X 133, and includes bus master capability.

The adaptor does not require an onboard PCI bridge as the Intel 82546GB is a dual-channel controller that connects straight to the host board's PCI bus.

A 512Kbyte BIOS EPROM is supported in a 32-pin PLCC JEDEC socket and includes PXE firmware.

This board can be used with Concurrent Technologies' CompactPCI, VME, VXS host boards or any other PMC-compliant host board.

Integration is simplified due to the Intel 82546GB Gigabit Ethernet controller being well supported by today's operating systems.
