ULP DC-DC converters cut portable-device power use

Emco High Voltage

ULP Series DC-DC converters

Emco has introduced the Ultra Low Power (ULP) Series DC-DC converters, designed for the demands of portable, battery-powered applications.

According to Emco, they deliver massive power reductions compared with existing solutions.

The ULP Series provides output voltages from 0 to 500V DC through 5,000V DC, while consuming less than two milliwatts of power.

This translates to 4,500 hours of operation on just two AA lithium batteries.

The output voltage is regulated, programmable and can deliver up to 4W of power on demand at more than 85 per cent efficiency.

Proprietary packaging produces a miniature module just 1/2in (12.7mm) high and weighing less than two ounces (56.7g), ideal characteristics for handheld applications.

Designed specifically with 'green' applications in mind, the ULP Series also features a shutdown pin that drops current consumption to below 10uA.

Standard input voltage range is 5.4V to 7.4V, and models are available in positive and negative outputs.

The operating temperature ranges available are -20C to +70C and -55C to +85C versions.

The ULP Series is available from stock and priced at less than USD295 in single-unit quantities, with quantity discounts offered.
