PoE480U-8UP mid-span
Phihong's new eight-port power-over-Ethernet (PoE) mid-span can remotely power applications such as wireless access points, computer workstations, security systems and IP cameras with heaters.
Designated the POE480U-8UP, the low-cost mid-span provides Ultra PoE technology with 60W of full power per port, delivers total full power of 480W and does not require any power management.
Keith Hopwood, vice-president of marketing at Phihong, said: 'The Ultra POE480U-8UP enables the remote powering of high-power devices outside or on the top of a pole without having to run AC power to the location.
'This advanced mid-span technology provides full power on every port and is a more cost-effective solution for expanding your network's capability because it saves thousands of dollars in cost and time when compared to hiring an electrician to install power where it is needed,' he added.
The 480W, eight-port Ultra PoE device measures 17.25 x 8.98 x 1.75in (43.8 x 22.8 x 4.4cm).
Data networks are available with 10Base-T, 100Base-T and 1000Base-T data rates.
The POE480U features safety and protection systems designed to meet IEEE 802.3 standards, including detection, disconnect and overload control.
The outputs are equipped with short-circuit and overload protection and the output can be shorted permanently without damage.
Over-temperature protection allows the mid-span to automatically shut down without being damaged.
The voltage range of the AC input is 90VAC to 264VAC, with AC input frequency from 47Hz to 63Hz.
There is also an optional DC input available.
Even before the PoE Plus standard was approved in 2009, users were requiring applications that require more than 30W of power per port, such as computer workstations, LCD display panels and WAP arrays.
Other emerging applications, including emergency lighting security system sensors and medical monitoring, could benefit from combining data and centralised backup power.
Phihong's Ultra PoE products can deliver 60W to 80W per port, with the same protection and safety precautions as standard PoE.
