MAX13256
Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX13256, a H-bridge transformer driver that is designed to provide a simple way to create isolated power supplies in smart grid metering applications and industrial and medical equipment.
Shasta Thomas presents the MAX13256 H-bridge driver
Using this driver, engineers can quickly design an isolated DC-DC converter with an efficiency of up to 90 per cent, according to the company.
The MAX13256 drives a transformer’s primary coil with up to 300mA of current from an 8 to 36V DC supply that can deliver up to 10W of isolated power.
Key specifications
- Users can choose their own transformer winding ratio, which defines the output voltage
- Integrated protection features prevent system-level failures
- Drives the transformer that acts as the additional form of isolation from high-voltage mains
- Eliminates external voltage regulation
- Integrates protection features that prevent system-level failures
- Adjustable current limiting allows indirect limiting of secondary-side load currents
- An over-current limit is set by an external resistor over the 215 to 650mA range
- An active-low fault output asserts when the device detects an over-temperature or over-current condition
- Integrated thermal and short-circuit protection ensures safe operation and reduces cost and PCB space
- Helps reduce heat in applications where space is premium
- Features a low-power mode to reduce the overall supply current to 0.65mA when the driver is not in use
- -40 to 125°C automotive temperature range
