Miniature tuning fork targets portable devices

Fox Electronics

FX122 tuning fork

Fox Electronics has increased its range of watch crystals with a new tuning fork whose miniature size makes it ideal for portable and handheld devices where space is critical.

The FX122 is approximately 33 per cent smaller than previous models, measuring 2.1 x 1.3mm with a profile of 0.6mm.

With a frequency of 32.768kHz, the surface-mount device (SMD) is optimised for a standard 12.5pF load capacitance, with an optional load capacitance of 9pF available.

Frequency tolerance is +/-20PPM at 25C (77F) and frequency stability is -0.04ppm/2 over the standard operating temperature of -40 to 85C (-40 to 185F).

Turnover temperature range is 20 to 30C (68 to 86F) and storage temperature is -55 to 125C (-67 to 257F).

Maximum equivalent series resistance of the FX122 crystal is 90Kohms and insulation resistance is 500Mohms at 100V DC.

The termination finish is gold over nickel.

The watch crystal is RoHS-compliant and comes standard in a 3,000-unit tape and reel for automatic assembly systems.
