Filtered connectors survive thermal shocks

CoF filtered connectors
Compared with the ceramic planar array block capacitor used in conventional filter connectors, the Cannon CoF connector uses a state-of-the-art flexible circuit.
ITT Electronic Components has tested its chip-on-flex (CoF) filter connector technology to 1000 cycles of thermal shock from -55 to +125C per MIL-STD-1344.
Compared with the ceramic planar array block capacitor used in conventional filter connectors, the Cannon CoF connector uses a state-of-the-art flexible circuit where individual chip capacitors are surface mounted on a pad adjacent to the feedthrough contact.
"We have eliminated the stress points that impact performance in shock and vibration environments by flex mounting the feedthrough contacts rather than soldering them directly to the capacitor", says Keith Teichmann, Director of Product Management for ITT Electronic Components.
"While other filter connectors have typical lifespans of around 50 cycles, this robust design is capable of a life cycle 20 times that, making it the only military filter connector in the industry to pass 1000 hours of thermal shock testing".
The robust connector design also provides superior reliability and protection in harsh environments.
In MIL-DTL-38999 configurations, the chip-on-flex connector has passed MIL-STD-1344 and MIL-DTL-38999 Series III testing for mechanical shock, random vibration, humidity and high altitude.
The connector features a voltage rating of 200V DC or 120V AC RMS 400Hz.
Current ratings are 15, 7.5 and 5.0A for sizes 16, 20 and 22, respectively.
The CoF connector is ideal for high reliability military, aerospace and industrial applications including integrated avionics, radio and navigation systems, fire control devices, electronic counter measures, satellite communications and data transmitters.
Typical pricing for the chip on flex filter connector ranges from $125 to $175 each in quantities of 100.
Lead time is from 12 to 14 weeks.
