Toshiba photorelays target switching applications

Toshiba Electronics

TLP170 photorelays

Toshiba's semiconductor photorelays offer longer service life, lower power consumption and reduced board-space requirements over mechanical alternatives for a variety of switching applications.

Supplied in a SOP4 surface-mount package, the TLP170 photorelays measure 4.4 x 3.9 x 2.1mm.

Each device comprises a gallium arsenide (GaAs) infrared emitting diode that is optically coupled to a MOSFET.

The relays help to lower power consumption due to an improved output photodiode array, which has a maximum LED trigger current of 1mA.

Devices in the TLP170 series offer off-state voltages of 60, 200, 350 and 600V, allowing the devices to satisfy a range of requirements.

Potential applications range from security and measurement equipment to home appliances, office equipment, telecommunications products and factory automation.

All of the photorelays feature a normally open (1-Form-A) configuration and a minimum isolation voltage of 1,500Vrms.

Depending on the device chosen, maximum on-state current and on-state resistance ranges from 90 to 400mA and 60 to 2ohms, respectively.

Maximum turn-on time for all of the relays is 8ms, with maximum turn-off time specified as 3ms.
