Multi-layer varistors
AVX Corporation, a manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has developed a number of application-specific multi-layer varistors.
These are designed for automotive, industrial, military, mobile handset, telecommunication, heavy equipment, appliance and consumer product applications.
The company can also manufacture custom varistors if the design requires specific performance and environmental characteristics not available in the standard product offering.
Sonja Brown, AVX global circuit protection product manager, said: 'We design and manufacture the multi-layer varistors with the end application in mind and our custom design and manufacturing capabilities make AVX's multi-layer varistor series able to protect any circuit from electrostatic discharge [ESD] and transient voltage.' The company's series of application-specific multi-layer varistors includes: the CAN Series, which is designed to protect a controlled area network (CAN); the USB Series, which is the low-cap version of the traditional Transguard and is designed to protect a universal serial bus (USB); the Medium Power Telecom Series, which provides an effective alternative to MOVs 60VRMS to 0VRMS; the Medium Power Automotive Series, offering high energy ratings to protect against automotive-related transients; Staticguard, which protects against ESD; Antennaguard, a low-cap series designed to protect antennas and other circuits with high data rate speeds; and Ultraguard, which has low leakage for the protection of battery-powered applications.
