TTI is offering the ground breaking AO-CAP range ofaluminium-polymer surface-mount capacitors from Kemet.

Aimed atpower-management applications, the AO-CAP range helps reducecomponent count, while cost effectively saving board space.Designated the A700 Series, the AO-CAP available from TTI markscapacitor manufacturer Kemet's entrance into the aluminiumcapacitor market.

The product offers the benefits of extremelylow ESR afforded by aluminium, true surface mount capabilitythrough the use of a polymer cathode material, and highcapacitance retention at high frequencies.

Offering manyadvantages over wet electrolytic capacitors, the AO-CAP structureuses aluminium as the anode material, aluminium oxide as thedielectric and a conductive, organic polymer for itscounter-electrode material.

The A700 series features a mouldedcase with wrap around terminations that provide strong protectionagainst cracks.

This makes the capacitor an ideal alternative tohigh capacitance ceramics and the existing aluminium organiccapacitors found in the industry.

The structure of the AO-CAPprovides many advantages, including a true surface-mountcapability that is robust to the SMT process, no dry-out relatedfailure mechanism, and no voltage derating up to +125C.

TheAO-CAP is a totally lead free device with excellent surge currentperformance and long term reliability.

The operating temperatureis a wide -55 to +125C.

For familiarity and ease of integration,AO-CAP is offered in the same EIA industry standard case sizesand packaging formats as Kemet's tantalum chip capacitorlines.

TTI is able to quickly provide AO-CAP information andproduct samples to customers who need the technological advancesof the low ESR polymer aluminium AO-CAP in their designs.

As afurther aid to designers, Kemet's Spice simulation softwaremodels the frequency behaviour of ceramic, tantalum and aluminiumsurface mount capacitors, and can be used to determine theappropriate Kemet capacitor for a given application.

The softwareis available at www.kemet.com.
