CoolPAM power amplifiers
Avago Technologies, a supplier of interface components, has introduced five CoolPAM power amplifiers (PAs) for universal mobile telecommunication (UMTS) band handsets and datacard applications.
The ACPM-73x2 series of PAs are based on Avago's fifth-generation CoolPAM circuit technology, which provides long talk times with a low quiescent current at about 3mA.
Avago's ACPM-73x2 PAs are fully matched 10-pin surface-mount modules designed for UMTS bands 1, 2, 4, 5 and 8.
They meet a range of UMTS linearity requirements and output power ranges.
The 4 x 4mm form-factor package is self contained and incorporates 50ohm input and output matching networks.
These PAs comply with the new talk-time requirements defined by most global mobile carriers.
The CoolPAM circuit technology incorporated in these PAs supports bypass, mid- and high-power modes.
CoolPAM is a stage bypass technology that enhances power-added efficiency (PAE) at low- and medium-power ranges.
An active bypass feature has been added to these PAs to enhance PAE further at a low-output range, which is intended to help extend talk time.
The PAs are manufactured on advanced InGaP hetero-junction bipolar transistor microwave monolithic integrated circuit technology for temperature stability and ruggedness.
According to the company, they come in a thin 0.9mm package and feature excellent linearity, three-mode power control with Vbp and Vmode and high efficiency at maximum output power.
They are lead free and RoHS compliant.
