Single-mode-to-multimode converter
GAO Fiber Optics has rolled out a single-mode-to-multimode (SM-to-MM) converter operating in full-duplex mode.
The modulated fibre-optic single-mode and multimode converter conducts the transparent conversion between the media of single-mode and multimode optical fibre and supports 100m quick Ethernet.
It is intended for use in the interlinking and data communication fields of local-area networks and wide-area networks and for single-mode and multimode conversion.
The converter can connect FDDI, fast Ethernet or ATM using a 1,310nm wavelength for fibre-optic transmission.
The SM-to-MM converter conforms to the IEEE82.3u and 100BASE-TX/FX standards.
It is able to switch over among 1,310nm and 1,550nm single-mode fibres and 850nm and 1,310nm multimode fibres.
The fast converter can be used as a standalone unit or as a slide-in module to GAO's 19in (48cm) converter rack or it can be used at a central wiring closet.
It supports centre chassis installation with optional power redundancy and management features for fibre networks.
FX connectors are all SC.
All of these features make the converter suitable for short-reach multimode fibres, long-reach single-mode fibres and Bi-Di and CWDM applications.
