Device measures optical loss in fibre
GAO Fiberoptics
Fibre-optic visual light source
GAO Fiber Optics has released a fibre-optic visual light source suitable for measuring the optical loss in fibre in the testing and maintenance of telecom, CATV and other fibre-optic applications.
Used together with the company's 5304 fibre-optical power meter, the new device, model 5204, provides a precise testing solution for optical networks.
This fibre-optic visual light source, which is part of GAO's Light Source range of products, provides one to six wavelengths of highly stable output, including 650nm visible red light, 1,310/1,550nm wavelengths for single-mode fibre and 850/1,300nm wavelengths for multi-mode fibre, as well as other optional wavelengths.
It offers typical output power of 0dBm at 650nm, -7dBm at 1,310nm/1,550nm and -20dBm for light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
Its modulation frequencies are CW, 2Hz at 650nm and CW, 270Hz, 1kHz and 2kHz at other wavelengths.
It features one-touch switch operation, a backlight LCD display for night operation and low battery power indication.
It has an auto-off function after 10 minutes of idle time.
The fibre-optic visual light source is powered by alkaline batteries that provide 45 hours of continuous operation and also has an AC power supply.
