Osram Opto Semiconductors introduces tiny infrared LED suitable for security applications

Osram Opto Semiconductors

Oslon SFH 4715S LED

Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced a tiny infrared light-emitting diode (LED) that is designed to enable the development of compact illumination units for CMOS and CCD cameras.

Despite measuring just 3.75 x 3.75mm2, the Oslon SFH 4715S LED offers more than 1W of optical power.

The compact device incorporates the company’s nanostick chip technology combined with a temperature-stable Oslon Black Series package, which is based on a metal lead frame and offers thermal expansion that matches the thermal behaviour of circuit boards.

According to Osram Opto Semiconductors, the new LED — which is suitable for security applications such as CCTV — typically provides 1,070mW of optical power at a 1A operating current and ensures a typical thermal resistance of just 6.5kW.

Key features

  • Lens with a +/-45° emission angle
  • Wavelength of 850nm
  • Compliance with the AEC-Q101 automotive standard
  • Operating lifetime of up to 50,000 hours
