Optimal IV Star LEDs have good thermal performance

Optek Technology

OV4Z Optimal IV Star Series LEDs

Integrating four 1-W LED die into a single assembly for solid state lighting applications, Optek has developed a star-shaped red/green/blue/amber LED assembly with good thermal performance.

Designated the OV4Z Optimal IV Star Series, the LEDs are offered in mono-colour or RGBA packages and feature a recessed die design that houses four LED chips under a 5mm optical-grade water clear lens.

The assemblies achieve a low thermal resistance of <2C/W from junction to heatsink.

The OV4Z Series devices are bright and ideally suited for applications including large signage; interior, exterior and landscape architectural lighting; recreational areas such as pools, spas and boats; and specialty lighting including vending machines, display cases and stage lighting.

The Optimal IV Star Series assemblies feature emitted colours of blue (455-460nm), green (530-535nm), red (620-630nm), amber (585-595nm), and daylight white.

Typical forward voltage at 350mA ranges from 2.5V to 3.9V for the RGBA devices, and 8.6V to 13.1V for the mono-colour assemblies, while luminous flux at 350mA ranges from 5 lm to 36 lm and 29 lm to 162 lm, depending on LED colour.

Viewing angle for both the RGBA and mono-colour assemblies is 60C.

Maximum allowable junction temperature is 130C, with an operating temperature range of -50C to +100C.

The mono-colour assembly is available with mounting pads, while the RGBA assembly is available with through-hole pins or mounting pads for surface mount electrical connections, along with six locating slots for mounting screws.

The assemblies are 0.83in (21mm) in diameter on a 0.04in (1mm) thick star-shaped PC board.
