Dolby uses Osram LEDs in backlit reference monitor

Osram Opto Semiconductors

RGB LEDs

Osram Opto Semiconductors' LEDs are being used in Dolby's LEDbacklit professional reference monitors.

Designed for professional content creation applications and targeted at production and post-production of films and TV shows, the Dolby PRM-4200 monitor uses 1,536 of Osram's RGB LEDs.

The LEDs provide high performance with a wide colour gamut, high colour accuracy, high dynamic range and deep blacks.

The Dolby PRM-4200 professional reference monitor, a 42in LED-backlit reference display, is tailored for professional applications that require accurate and true colour reproduction, increased dynamic range, deep black levels and excellent greyscale tracking.

The use of LEDs along with Dolby's proprietary dual-modulation and calibration technologies allows the display to meet these requirements.

The Ceramos MultiLED devices are said to deliver the high performance required by the professional content creation industry.

The red, green and blue chips of the LED are positioned so the colour mix has the same appearance when observed from a range of angles.

The 0.9mm-high, 3 x 4.5mm package is ideal for flat backlights and its ceramics material makes it extremely stable over a long period of time.

These LEDs have lifetimes in excess of 50,000 hours.
